Qualified as BPI Building Analysts, we use building science technology to help customers solve heating, cooling and air leakage problems that are driving up energy costs and provide them with plans to make their homes more comfortable, safe and durable. The training consists of an overview of building science fundamentals, analysis of diagnostic equipment, assessment of building tightness and practical application of "blower door," combustion safety and other diagnostics for assessing air leakage and efficiency of buildings.
As certified BPI Shell Specialists, we use building science technology to perform an in-depth evaluation of the shell of a building. The shell of a building is defined as the surface dividing the space that is heated and cooled from the space that is not, or more simply stated, the interior from the exterior. Evaluations include the type of insulation in the walls, floor and ceiling and the effective R-values of each. One of the most important evaluations is to measure the building's infiltration rate (how much air is coming in from outside) and to locate the cause and recommend solutions. Shell Specialists are also trained to install shell related energy improvement measures.
Heating Specialists, like Building Analysts and Shell Specialists, use building science technology to perform in-depth evaluations of the heating and distribution systems of a building. Heating Specialists are trained to evaluate, repair and install new furnaces and boilers that are fired by oil, natural gas or LP (propane) and from atmospheric combustion to sealed combustion. Heating Specialists are also qualified to evaluate, install and repair distribution systems ranging from forced air duct work to hot water fin-tube, radiators and radiant floor tubing. An important consideration in choosing a heating system is to ensure that the correct size and type of unit is installed. Heating Specialists are trained with Manual-J and Manual-D to ensure that the heating system and distributions system are right for the building.
AC and Heat Pump Professional, like the Building Analysts, Shell Specialists and Heating Specialists, use building science technology to perform an in-depth evaluation of the heating and cooling systems of a building. They are trained to evaluate, repair and install geothermal (ground source) heat pumps, air to air heat pumps and air conditioning units. AC and Heat Pump Professional are also trained to evaluate, install and repair forced air distribution systems and to ensure that the correct size and type of unit is installed. AC and Heat Pump Professionals, like Heating Specialists, are trained with Manual-J and Manual-D to ensure that the heating system and distributions system are sized and installed correctly.
Multifamily Building Analyst, like Building Analysts, use building science technology to perform an in-depth evaluation of multifamily buildings, from single story to high rise. Building Analysts use building science technology to help customers solve heating, cooling and air leakage problems that are driving up energy costs and to provide them with a plan to make their buildings more comfortable, safe and durable. The training consists of an in-depth study of building science, analysis of diagnostic equipment used for multifamily buildings and assessment of building tightness. Combustion safety and other diagnostics for assessing air leakage and efficiency of buildings are used as well.
Green Verifiers, like HERS raters, qualify and label "GREEN HOMES" for the NAHB. Green Verifier's, like the Hers Raters, Heating Specialists, Building Analysts and Shell Specialists, use building science technology and green practices to verify that the proposed house is energy efficient and will have a minimal environment impact. The Green Verifier ensures, throughout the construction process, that the building and work site is constructed according to the proposed plan.
HERS raters qualify and label ENERGY STAR® homes. HERS raters, like the above Heating Specialists, Building Analysts and Shell Specialists, use building science technology, diagnostic and testing equipment to ensure new homes are built healthy, safe and energy efficient. HERS raters also perform computer modeling with REMrate. This allows the HERS rater to verify that the proposed house is at least 30% more energy efficient than a house built to code. Once the REMrate modeling is complete the HERS rater verifies, throughout the construction process, that the house is constructed according to the proposed design thus ensuring optimum performance of the new ENERGY STAR® home.
Malcarne is certified by the EPA to handle all refrigerants, from low pressure to high pressure and to install and service equipment that uses refrigerant.
