From Dream Home to Reality Building

Have you ever woken from a dream that makes you wish you’d sleep forever? Dreams like that make you wish life had a roadmap – a set of directions to get you to that perfect end.

Life, unfortunately, isn’t quite that simple. There’s no GPS to connect to, although we’re certainly hard-wired to go on dreaming, whether it’s for a future career, family, or even something a little more concrete, like your home.

While we certainly can’t claim to convert all your dreams into reality, when it comes to our wheelhouse – creating the best home for your needs – Malcarne Contracting can not only translate your visions, but make the process itself just as sweet.

How? By assembling a relationship with our customers that goes beyond a simple build.

Interpreting What Matters

Dreams may be complicated, but, more often than not, they’re a reflection of what motivates us. And that’s our first question to you: What’s your motivation? What’s the goal that drives you?

Maybe you’d love to have more room for your family and friends to gather, but the blueprint of your home doesn’t match the one in your head. Or, whether it’s for principle or financial sake, you’re longing to break free from fossil fuels and live off the sun and the grid.

But getting from A to Z is the problem – how do you turn your passion for family togetherness or going green into that tangible reality? We at Malcarne want to hear that dream – for more space where it simply isn’t, for a healthier heating option when your home is reliant on gas and oil, for a more comfortable space where you currently spend summers sweating and winters in blankets.

Give us a call, and let us work out the details. You may see the why, but we see the how – and if it’s meaningful to you, it’s our passion, too.

More Value – With More Than a Builder

We’ve heard the nightmare stories: the families who’ve communicated their dreams to a contractor and found themselves trying to wake up from a nightmare. Maybe they’re talked into buying services they don’t need, or abandoned in the midst of a project.

With Malcarne, you’re not getting a builder, you’re getting a relationship. Our whole company is founded, not simply on what we can fabricate, but on how we can take care of our customer. Think your windows are the source of your draft issues? Before you shell out thousands for new ones, it may be a simple matter of sealing them up. We don’t try to boost your bill by taking advantage of your dream. We go beyond making sure all your questions and concerns are quelled: We’re dedicated to people.

As the buds begin to break through the ground, spring is a great time to plan for that building project that’s been growing in your mind’s eye through the winter (or, perhaps, many winters), but it’s also a time to reflect at what really motivates us in life.

What are the changes that are the stuff of your dreams – the things you’d like to see become reality? What within you inspires you? What’s your passion? If it has to do with your home, we’re your people. We’ll help you to make that dream, that desire, into reality.

Check your list twice – and put home comfort and energy-efficiency at the top!

Whether your Christmas list is longer than the five-year-olds who recite their inventory of wants on Santa’s lap, or you’re looking to simplify and pare down in 2017, there’s one thing almost every homeowner has in common: This year, you can make your house a little more joyful by upping the comfort factor in each and every room.

While the word “cozy” calls to mind fleece blankets and a roaring blaze in the fireplace, no one wants to spend all winter wearing every article of clothing the closet has to offer just to keep the chill off. Now that winter’s grasp is firmly on the Hudson Valley for the season, it’s time to take a good look at what your house could use for Christmas this year.

If a complete renovation during the holidays makes you cringe more than a slice of month-old fruitcake, fear not: Basic, small changes can make a huge difference in the energy-efficiency of your home – and keep you cozy, whether it’s a blizzard or balmy outdoors.

Here’s a list of tried-and-true tactics Malcarne Contracting uses every time we make a home better-functioning and more comfortable for our customers:

  • By sealing up gaps, cracks and holes in an attic and basement, we can dramatically increase your home’s warmth factor.
  • Old heating systems don’t work as well and cost more in monthly bills than energy-efficient models: Malcarne can let you know what’s out there in terms of available systems – including newer ductless heating systems – what’s reliable, and what makes the most sense for your home.
  • Energy efficiency doesn’t mean just changing a larger item like a heating system: You can cut costs on energy bills by upgrading smaller things, from light bulbs to appliances.
  • So much comes down to one word: insulation. Simply having the right insulation – like that cozy fleece blankie – means your heat stays in and the cold winter winds stay out.
  • Santa doesn’t leave one-size-fits-all presents under the tree, and we couldn’t agree more when it comes to houses! Malcarne Contracting visits and evaluates each home as a separate entity, making sure you get what your home really needs to fix its weak spots and truly make it more snug and energy-efficient.

So make a list of your cold rooms and your high energy bills, and don’t check it twice: Instead, call Malcarne Contracting. By making your home run more efficiently and feel more comfortable, you’ll receive a gift that gives all year long.

Good Spring Projects

It’s a glorious time of year: Spring means fresh air through open windows, birds singing, plenty of sunshine – and the perfect season to make your home more beautiful and functional than ever. Proper planning – starting before you pack away your parkas for the season – is key to a good spring home transformation, from sprucing up outdoor spaces to full-fledged additions.

When many homeowners think of projects they’d like to tackle as the temperatures rise, many think of their porches and decks: things normally used during the spring and summer. Perhaps yours needs a facelift – a new coat of paint or a fix for wobbly stairs, for example. Malcarne Contracting can give your space that much-needed TLC, or even trade out your existing space’s old materials for a more efficient, durable composite-material.

Spring’s also a great time to consider new construction: A long winter indoors may have you rethinking your home’s square footage or layout. While moving and purchasing a new home may not be doable for your family, adding on that screened-in outdoor deck, master bedroom suite or eat-in kitchen you’ve always dreamed of can help you fall in love with your home all over again, and give your crew more usable space.

The experts at Malcarne Contracting can help make your dream home a reality, but planning for it is important – especially if you’re hoping to finish your project before September. Most additions and work on outdoor spaces that Malcarne heads up usually happen in June, July and August, during the warm summer weather. Still, waiting until June to begin the process may mean your project’s close won’t be until Christmas. Instead, planning for these projects needs to begin in the spring, around March and April.

Typically, especially for a larger project such as a new kitchen or bedroom addition, getting blueprints drawn up, gathering the necessary building approvals and permits, and preparing for the job can take up to three months. After that, the time spent on smaller renovations can last three or so weeks, while a full-fledged addition may take four months to complete. Planning before spring even officially hits is crucial.

With a good strategy in place, the experts at Malcarne can take you from conception through construction – getting you closer to that much-needed family space. Plus, well-done, functional renovations add value to your home long-term, while allowing you to enjoy the potential of what your structure has to offer today. In an economy where selling a home may be a difficult or even impossible task, renovations and additions help to give you your ideal home – without changing your address. And with warmer weather, summer barbecues and family gatherings right around the corner, there’s no time like the present to start living your dream.
